Hello friends. It has been a while since I published anything new. Spring is here and a number of projects and concerns are filling my time. One of these is the continued work on my book about Tarot and the Wheel of the Year. As The Sun prepares to leave the first decan of Taurus I thought I would share what I have written so far about The Five of Disks Tarot Card, the card connected with Taurus 1. Hope y’all find it interesting. Blessed Beltane season to all of my readers.

Decan One
Five of Disks
Two figures dressed in rags, one crippled, make slow progress through the snow. They walk past a church with lighted windows. Golden light radiates through windows made of pentacles. This suggests warmth, both worldly and spiritual, is to be found within the sanctuary.
These beggars seem not to notice. Perhaps they have been turned away from this sanctuary by those who dwell within or perhaps they feel unworthy to approach. Perhaps they are simply too preoccupied with their immediate material need to see the value in visiting the house of the spirit. Either way, this card is a reminder that, even in this season where we dedicate ourselves to the eventual harvest, still we do not live by “bread alone”. All material aspiration must be crowned by the light of the spirit if it is to become true nourishment. Even at the beginning of things we must seek the world beyond, the ancestors who’s commitment to the future brought us here, our descendants who will benefit from this same commitment on our part, the higher principles which give meaning and direction to our lives.
This decan is ruled by Mercury. The messenger of the Gods and master of communications bids us work together, share our knowledge and skill and thereby, become more than isolated individuals struggling against material trials. The spiritual light unheeded by the beggar is the light that will bind him to community, give him a purpose and lift him above mere animal feeding and eventual death.
